December 22, 2014

Dear Family,

I am super happy that in 3 days I will be able to talk to yall. It is gonna be awesome! I miss yall and love yall so much. So today I received the other box. I had no time to open it because I just dropped it off at the house and came here to be able to write yall. But I promise that I will give a full report on it next week. I am quite excited to open it. I am positive that I will love whatever yall sent me. Well I am super glad to hear that Alex graduated this last Thursday. Congrats bro! And yes mother the internet cafè is gonna be opened. We already talked to the owner. She loves the missionaries. She even dropped the price down for us. She is an awesome person! And thanks for the Skype info mother. Okay well now let me tell yall about my week. On Moday we our P-Day and we just threw the frisbee. Jajajaj throwing the frisbee is fun. I accidently hit another Elder today cause the wind picked up and took the frisbee right into the back of the head of another elder. Jajajaj he wasn`t mad. On Tuesday, I woke up just miserable. I had a fever and my stomach was killing me. Oh that was the worst day of my mission. I stayed in bed ALL day and couldn`t do anything. Oh I didn`t like it at all jajaj. So Tuesday wasn`t too much of a great day. Wednesday was an AWESOME day!!! Elder Duncan came to our mission and gave us some tips on how to better the work. We were there for 7 hours. And the time, I was writing down something that he was saying. Before he came other elders who have a long time on the mission started saying that with Elder Duncan we were gonna do A LOT of role plays. So I was kinda nervous because they said that almost all the missionaries would get up in front of everyone to do role plays. But he never did them. So I was glad. I learned a lot in the time that I was there. I was still a little sick when I went to this Multi-Zone conference but I felt a lot better after it. Then we went to have a family home evening with a less active. Her name is Hermana Mercy. So that was a great lesson. On Thursday I felt my first earthquake. I have been here and apparently there have been a lot but I never felt any. But now I can say that I have. Oh it was pretty awesome! It wasn`t a big earthquake but it was felt. I was so happy jajaj. Well after that we went with Hermana Martha. We chilled with her for a bit and had a great time. We started talking to her children, who aren`t members, about the church. They seem interested so we are gonna start teaching them. I hope all go well with them. Then we went to see familia Hernandez. When we got there, Hermano Hernandez was working. So we decided to help him. He was shoveling rocks from his truck in some big buckets. So then we carried that from his truck all the way to his house that was a little distance away. Jajajaj I carried like 13 buckets. They were so heavy and it was really hot outside. So I was tired after that. Then we went to Hermana Mimi`s for lunch. When we got to her house, no one was there. So we called and found out that she was gonna give us lunch at her mother`s house. So we walked for like 10 minutes to get to the other house. We got there and had a great lunch. After that we went to visit thye Velasco`s. On Friday we had the ward Christmas party. Well it was planned to start at 7 but it didn`t get started until 8:30 since we are using "la hora chapina" jajaj. So we stayed for a little while then we had to leave to be able to be back at the house by 9:30. That was quite a cold night jajaja. But my jacket helped me out a lot. Oh I was so glad to receieve it. On Saturday we contacted like animals. We found a lot of news and hope to be able to teach them. It was a very successful day. On Sunday we went to church and heard more talks over Christmas. They were pretty great. Then a member brought a friend and we set a cita to go meet with them and try to teach them about the church. Yup, so that was my week. I love and miss yall!!!

Love,
Elder Chicas

December 15, 2014

Hola,

Well Monday was a great day. It was P-Day!!! Mondays are always great days. At home I used to hate Mondays but on the mission you love Mondays because that is when you get to write the family! On Tuesday, I completed 5 months so Hermana Mirna invited us over at 8 a.m. to make us pancakes. And those pancakes we really great. She made so much. I ate like 6 and I was SOOOOO full. But she continued making them. I thought I was gonna die but then her kids finally woke up. So they came out and started devouring pancake after pancake. I was glad they came out. I just couldn´t handle one more pancake jajaj. After that we had the district meeting. So we talked over a few of the commandments. And then as usual, we did role plays. The leaders now wanna do role plays after each meeting for an hour. But they will help even if no one in the district likes them. Jajajaj the struggle is real. After the meeting we went to the store so I could buy some shoe polish. My shoes gets so dirty after each day. Sometimes I think that there isn´t any point of polishing my shoes because they get dirty as soon as we get outside. But I polish them each morning. I just try really really hard to not get them dirty. But since the rainy season is done here, there is just so much dust. So I just cover my face with my tie so that it doesn´t make me sneeze. After the dispense we went to eat lunch. Then we went to Lorenzo and Maria. We taught them about the priesthood because Lorenzo had questions. So we had a great and powerful lesson with them. Then we went with Hermana Martha. With her we taught about keeping the sabbath day holy. She really liked the lesson. And then she wanted to watch the "He is the Gift" video. She just absolutely loves that video. On Wednesday, we went with Jose and Yoselin. We taught about faith and how they can fortify it. We had a great lesson with them. Then we we to lunch with Hermana Celia. After that we went to visit Hermana Tellme. She is an active member. We just went to visit her to see if there was anything she needed help with and then we asked for a reference. Well she gave us one. It is a lady that lives down the street from here. She pointed out the house and we went to contact them. Well when we got near the house a dog came out and almost bit me. But I took my bagpack off right before it got to me. Jajajaj it just happened so fast. We were just walking up to the house and then all of a sudden a dog comes out from under the truck and just charges at us. I thought for sure that I was gonna get bitten that day. But nah. The lady came out and told the dog to go away. It was her dog so he listens to her. So we went in and taught her about the reason for the season. We shared the "he is the Gift" video with her and her family. They liked it a lot. And they wanna learn more about the church so we have another cita to go visit them. Then we went to the familia Velasco´s house to see how they were doing and then to also ask for a reference. They didn´t have any but it was okay. Then we went to dinner with Hermana Mirna and then our day ended. On Thursday, We had weekly planning and put some really high goals. But I am sure that we will reach those goals. It´ll be hard but we got this jajajaj. Then we went to lunch with Hermana Mimi. When we got there they were a little sad because the dog that they´ve had for like 7 years died on Tuesday. His name was Frijole. He was a huge dog. But we got there and started to try cheering the kids up. We played with trompos (tops). They were having fun and enjoyed the time we had. They felt a little better. Hermana Mimi has 3 kids. They are Luis, Kique, and Jorge. They are 10,7, and 3. They are a really nice and fun family. After that we went with a less active. His name is Antonio Atzul. We watched the Gift video with him. He started to think and then started to cry. Jesus really was a gift from our loving Heavenly Father. We are blessed. It was a very spiritual cita. We are gonna visit him again to see if he will agree to come to church. Then we did A LOT of contacting. We contacted a lot of people. We had a lot of "No thank you" and "Fijese que" but we continued. We found a few new people. We set some citas with them for this week. So we are hopeful they go well. On Friday, we took our clothes to familia Ochoa because they are the ones who wash our clothes. They are some cool people. They always wash our clothes really well and always have it ready when they say they will have it. Then we went back to the house to study a little bit because our lunch all of a sudden got moved back until 2. So we studied then went to lunch with Hermana Marlini. Then we went with Hermana Martha because she had a reference for us. She told us about the reference and then we went to contact them. When we got to their house, they were in the car about to leave but they said we could go back on Tuesday. So tomorrow we will see if we can start teaching them. Then we went to see Hermana Norma to help her move her washer machine. Then we went to dinner with familia Quijivix (Key-He-Veesh). On Saturday, we went to do some service for familia Ochoa. We helped him clean his huge yard. There was all kind of stuff in that yard. It was stuff like bones, soccer balls, tires, and just a bunch of other junk. I was tired after cleaning because it was super hot and there were a lot of bags that we had to carry down the street. Then we went to lunch with familia Velasco. Then we went to do some contacting. We found a few people that want to know more about what we do as missionaries. Then we went with Hermana Ingrid to visit her and her family. She has a son that is getting ready to serve a mission. He is excited and can´t wait to get going. Then we went to the house to eat dinner because our Saturday dinner cancelled. On Sunday, we went to church and heard some great talks. They were about the Christmas season and what we can do to remember the real reason for the season. Well that was my week. I love yall and miss yall.

Love,
Elder Chicas

P.S. I finally received my first box! I can't believe that there is another one coming! Es una caja muy grande! I didn´t open the wrapped gift yet. But I will on Christmas and I LOVED the Dr. Peppers.

December 9, 2014

Dear Family,
I hope everything is going well. I did not write yesterday because there power was completely out in all of my area and when it finally came back, the internet signal took forever to come back. So I am writing you today. I am super glad to know that yall received my package. I hope yall liked it. And yup today I have completed 5 months. The time really has flown by. It felt as if yesterday yall abandoned me at the airport jajaj. But these 5 months of the mission have been aweome! I have learned so much. My leaders help me a lot. The people of Guatemala are great. I absolutely love it here. And I have been meaning to tell yall that Christmas started here on November 15. They started Christmas that early. But I am cool with it because I love the Christmas season too. It is just a great and happy season. It is a time where we came remember our Saviour, Jesus Christ. It is the time when we came remember everything he did for us. And yes I have seen the video, "He is the Gift". It is a great video. Truly he is a gift.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."     - John 3:16
Our Heavenly Father loved us so much that He gave His only begotten son. God and Jesus truly love us all. The Christmas season is just the holiday ever. A whole holiday dedicated to our Savior.
Well my week went well here in the great country of Guatemala. My comp and I had a great week. We worked a lot and found a few new investigators. On Monday, we had a normal P-Day. We had the great opportunity to go to Walmart. We can only go to Walmart once a mont: So we take advantage of it. I bought a bunch of stuff that I needed. The best stuff that I bought was Mac & Cheese. I made the mistake of only buying 2 though. Next time I will know to buy a lot more jajaj. It was some good stuff. So after Walmart we went to write. On Tuesday, we went with Hermana Mimi to share that video of "He is the Gift". It was great. We testified of Christ. We gave her some cards that go along with the video. We told her that she could give those cards to her friends. So we have a goal of 10 cards to give out each day. The video and the cards a great way to contact. They help a lot. Then we went with Hermana Martha and shared the video too. She is a less active but she absolutely loved the video. So we helped her remember the true reason for the Christmas season. It was a great day.  On Wednesday, we started packing up all of our stuff cause we changed houses. The leaders wanted changes of houses immediately cause the house we were living at didn`t meet all of their expectations. So we spent all day doing that. Then on Wednesday, starting at 6 a.m., we started moving. Oh I was super tired after that. But we had citas to go to. So we went to them. We went with Jose and Yoselin. We invited them to church and had a great lesson about keeping the sabbath day holy. They committed to going to church. Then we went with la familia Mazariegos. They make some great and awesome corte. So i bought some of it. Then we taught a little lesson about the sacrament. We taught that it was the way the we could renew the covenants we made with God when we were baptized. So that went well. Then we went with Lorenzo and Maria. We taught them about the temple. They are ready to go into the temple. They are a very pilas couple. They will complete a year in the church when I complete a year in the mission. I know that they will be ready when the time comes. On Friday, we gave service to a member. We washes an infaltable bed that he had. It was quite big. It was cold while we were cleaning so we tried not wash it without getting wet jajaj. And since it is getting quite cold, I am desperate for my other jacket that I hope will get here this week. After service we went to do some contacting with the video and the cards. It went pretty well. We found 5 families that wanna learn a little more about the church. So we will follow up with them another day. On Saturday, we went to clean the church with a member that needed help. It went well. We cleaned a lot. This is the second week that we cleaned the church jajaj. But it`s okay because it`s our church too and we need to take care of it too. Then we went to Hermana Mercedes to share the video and cards. She thought it was a great video. She is a less active and wanted to know where she could find more videos like that. we told her that she could go to the church website and find a bunch of videos. She said she would. Then we went with the bishop to celebrate his birthday and my comp`s. The bishop`s wife made a chocolate cake that was really good. On Sunday, we went to church. The youth who went to EFY got up to share their experiences. It was really great to here the experiences they had. EFY was about Missionary Work. So it was great when some of the youth came up to us and started asking us about mission life. It was fun to talk to them about what we do. So that was my week. And I hope yall loved the package I sent yesterday. I love and miss yall!!!

December 4, 2014 (21 Days until Christmas Phone Call!!)

Thank you for always sending me weekly emails. I love opening my email to read what exciting things happened that week. And yeah I am about to complete 5 months in 8 days. Wow the time has flown. It is crazy jajaj. And nope, none of the boxes have arrived yet. But I am praying that they make it here. So I think one should arrive next Friday. I am quite excited to receive it. I will definitely tell you what I think. I am sure that I will love it. I hope everything is going great for yall. Well now I will tell you about my week and then send some pictures. Well Monday was P-Day as usual. We did´t do anything as a zone.  We ate with a member. It was great. We ate chow-mein and rice. That was some great stuff. On Tuesday, we went with Jose and Yoselin to see how they were doing. They are doing great. Then we went to lunch with la familia Sac. They gave us nachos without jalapeños. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I needed jalapeños with those nachos. But it was good anyways. After that we went with Lorenzo and Maria. We taught them about faith and the importance of it. Well there is a scripture in Moroni 7:33. It is an awesome scripture. Yall should look it up. It is a quite powerful scripture.
"And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me."
Then we went with la familia Menchu. We are gonna challenge Sergio and Luisa to baptism this week. I hope and pray that it goes well. Then we went with Martha and we watched a Christmas video since  Christmas here started November 15. So we are showed that video and it was just really great. She liked the video a lot. Then we went to dinner with Hermano Maximo. We ate soup with A LOT of tamales. Jajajaj but it was some good food. On Wednesday, we had our zone meeting. To everyones surprise, the assistants to the president were there. Well that was pretty awesome. We did a lot of role plays. And of course I go with one of the assistants. But I feel I did really well. I learned so much from it. After the meeting, we went to lunch with la hermana Celia. We ate chicken and some mixed vegetables. Then we asked for a reference from her and her family. They couldn´t think of one at the time. But it was okay because we went contacting for a little while and found 2 new investigators. Then we went with la familia King. That is where she gave us some morcaf with a cookie. I like cookies jajajaj. We stayed with la familia King for a while. We then asked for a reference. They gave us one. So we are going to contact that family this week. I always get excited when we get a reference. It´s great when the members help us. Oh and la familia King are workers in the temple. They go everyday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. And they just come home tired. They are some pretty pilas people. Then we went to the house to order dinner because our normal dinner with a member cancelled because she went out of town for an emergency. On Thursday, Thanksgiving, my comp and I had a meeting with him because it was 6 weeks since my comp got here. So it was a meeting to see how his training is going. It was an awesome meeting. The whole time, I was just writing everything he was saying. I just learn so much from President Smith. He is a great president and a great friend. When I went to the hospital in October, he was helping me and talking to me for about an hour. This was at midnight. The meeting was 5 hours. I thought I was gonna die because I was so hungry. But then they come out with turkey and other Thanksgiving foods. It was a great way to end a meeting
Oh and read 3 Nephi 27.
(you can click on the link below)
There is a lot of great information there. I have used that chapter to help people understand more about the reason Jesus Christ was baptized and the importance of baptism for us.
Then we got back to our area and worked for a little bit. Then we went with the other elders, who are also from America, to celebrate with them.It was just an awesome day. On Friday, we went with Sister Telme (Tell-Me) to teach a little lesson to. We then went to lunch with the bishop´s wife. Her name is Marlini. She is cool. We ate chicken, potatoes, and vegetables. She then invited us to her house Friday night because that is her husband´s birthday. So we are gonna go with her to eat cake. I like cake! I like cake like a lot jajaj! Then we went with Sister Martha to invite her to church. She said she would come. So it is good to work with the less actives to help them remember the covenants they made with Heavenly Father. We have been working A LOT with less actives lately. They are great people who just got a little lost. But we have had a lot of success with bringing them back. We then went to dinner with Sister Yolly where we ate sandwiches that were really great. They were ham and cheese. Oh yeah, cheese is amazing jajaj. On Saturday, I was feeling a little sick so we didn´t do much. We had weekly planning because we didn´t have time the other days. Then we did a little bit of contacting. But after that I just couldn´t do it anymore. We went home where I just crashed. Then later in the day we went with a member to ask for a reference. We got one and we are gonna contact them on Tuesday. On Sunday, we went to church. I started feeling so much better there. There were some great talks. They talked about temples, obedience, and enduring until the end. I learned a lot in the meeting. After church we went to lunch with la familia Mejia. We ate some kinda meat. I don't know what it was jajaj but it was pretty good. Then we went with sister Mercedes because she needed us to give a blessing to her friend. So when we got there, we explained the importance of the blessing and the faith needed to get help from it. It was a great time. We got 6 new investigators from that. I gave the blessing. I was nervous at first but then I just did it. The spirit was strong and definitely helping me. So that was my week. I love yall and miss yall.
Love,
Elder Chicas

PS. Yeah mom we need to pray that the boxes get here. And yeah president Smith is a boss! And I am learning as much as I can from him and the other missionaries. Thanks for the advice mama. I love you!
And I am taking care of myself now. I love you mother so so so much!

I have had this since I began the mission. They gave it to me in the CCM.
